Kinetic raises over £16,000 for Beating Bowel Cancer Charity

This week, Kinetic Solutions handed over a cheque for £16,093 to the Beating Bowel Cancer Charity, which aims to raise awareness of the symptoms of a cancer that is the second biggest killer in the UK.

The cheque is the culmination of a year’s worth of effort by Kinetic, who embraced fund raising for the charity to support a fellow member of staff who was undergoing treatment for the condition.

The money was raised by a variety of initiatives including a folk singing lunch, sponsored diets, cycles, walks, runs and car racing, and a sponsored sky dive.

Kinetic’s Sponsored Events at Venuemasters - a Resounding Success

The recent Venuemasters Conference held at Aston Business School saw Kinetic overwhelmed by the extraordinarily positive response to its latest web product offerings. And the success on the business front was perfectly complemented by the sponsored Wild West evening at which delegates had the chance to let their hair down and have a great time.

Kinetic organised a number of interactive sessions at the Conference, which aimed to demonstrate the new web-based Catering and Bed and Breakfast software. Due to the numbers wanting to attend this, several sessions were combined with a large degree of success.

Those interested in Kinetic’s software not only saw the products in operation, but were also able to discuss the functionality in practice with those who were already using the systems.

Round table discussions also attracted more than 50 delegates with the resulting feedback giving developers at Kinetic plenty of ideas to move product development forward.

Ideas that came out of discussions included the opportunity to book a delivery timeslot for delivered catering, and posting unlimited bedrooms online for booking, rather than just those allocated from stock.

Kinetic is now assessing all the ideas that were brought to the table, and we will be informing you about future developments in due course.

We would also like to say a huge thank you to Aston Business School for organising such a great event. Lisette Toetenel, UK Sales at Kinetic, says, “Their staff were absolutely fantastic.”

Prior to selecting Kx, Lancaster undertook a thorough assessment of several software packages. Richard Hothersall, senior project manager at Lancaster, said: “Kx met all our requirements, offering us a both flexible and user friendly solution.”

Product advantages aside, Lancaster was also impressed by the general attitude of Kinetic Solutions’ staff. Richard explains: “One of the reasons we selected Kinetic was the company’s responsiveness and flexibility throughout the comprehensive selection process.”

Unreserved US Success For Cranfield Company

Understanding the difference in markets and culture was just one of the keys to unlocking the US market for Cranfield company, Kinetic Solutions, after it signed up to UK Trade & Investment’s Passport to Export programme delivered by East of England International. The result has been the setting up of a base in the USA, which has rapidly led to $250,000 worth of sales for its specialised venue management software.

Chris Wildsmith, Kinetic’s Managing Director, says, “The training we got as part of Passport was a great start as was the back up from our International Trade Adviser, Stephen Scowcroft. It’s easy to think that you know what you’re doing but having someone to talk it through with opened up other ideas, confirmed what we’d got right and generally gave us confidence.

“More specifically, it made sure we looked at vital aspects such as resources and really assess what we had and what we needed. It taught us to be realistic about our targets and the costs. That persuaded us to get a US address and title and that has enabled us to sell to venue management across the country.”

Kinetic’s founders have a background in event management and hospitality provision often in unusual environments. They drew on that to develop a suite of software tools – the Kx family – to meet the needs of a niche market. While there are numerous packages available for the traditional hotel-based venue, nothing existed for the university-based market or other venues for which this is not the main business. The Kx family that developed from that idea now spans a wide range of facilities.

“Universities in the US have only recently followed the lead of UK establishments in exploiting their facilities in the commercial market. That put us in a terrific position to get in quickly”, says Chris Wildsmith. “It also gives an impetus to explore other markets and will be tapping into Passport to Export to assist us.”

In the UK venues ranging from the University of Kent and Alton Towers to Southampton Football Club and Missenden Abbey are using the companies packages. Now an equally diverse group of clients around the world are set to follow them.

Kinetic’s hospitality and conference software is applicable to a wide range of facilities - from dedicated conference centres to universities and other venues, such as sports stadia and outdoor pursuits centres. The suite of products operates from a single database enabling the user to choose the mix that is best suited to their business activities.

Kxpress is designed to suit smaller conferencing and venue operations with smaller budgets. It is an off-the-shelf version of the company’s conferencing and venue software and comes ready to install and use. For universities, housing associations and property management specialists the company has developed Kx venue management, conferencing, housing and student accommodation software.

Charity Sky Dive Leads to Proposal for Kinetic Solutions’ Lisa Copping

During a recent sponsored sky dive to raise money for the Beating Bowel Cancer charity, Kinetic Solutions’ Lisa Copping received more than she bargained for when her boyfriend proposed to her at 11,000 feet in the air.

Lisa says: “My boyfriend Gavin, who was also raising money and doing the jump, helped to keep my mind off the task ahead by proposing to me just before he jumped! I don’t know what I was more scared of.”

Leading hospitality and event management software company Kinetic Solutions’ staff, customers and suppliers have wholeheartedly embraced the drive to raise money for the Beating Bowel Cancer Charity in support of a member of their staff who is currently undergoing treatment. Beating Bowel Cancer aims to raise awareness of the symptoms of a cancer that is the second biggest killer in the UK.

To date, initiatives including Kit Eason organising a folk singing lunch; Ian Barcock losing 32lbs on a sponsored diet; Col Dean, Mark Kirkman, Stu Sklinar and Warren Colclough being sponsored for a half marathon run; Steve Ashley taking part in sponsored car racing, and Mark Kirkman and Lisa Copping participating in the sky dive, have raised more than £4,200.

Lisa accepted the proposal and is to be married next year. She says, “It was an amazing day and for such a good cause, I am so proud to have been a part of it.”

Kinetic helps Warwick maintain Legionella risk assessments

When Warwick Conferences approached Kinetic to see what could be done about providing reminders for risk assessments for Legionella, Kinetic was quick to respond.

Under Health and Safety Regulations all premises must conduct regular checks and risk assessments relating to the possibility of Legionella being present in water supplies. One of the key areas that can pose a risk is infrequently used water outlets, such as showers and taps.

While what constitutes a “regular” check isn’t specified, Warwick wanted to err on the side of caution and determined that any room left vacant for seven consecutive nights should be treated as a risk area and have certain procedures carried out on the eighth day.

Recognising that all Kx users may want to use a similar facility, Kinetic has now established a report within Kx that can now be used by anyone to flag up those bedrooms that haven’t been occupied for several consecutive nights (this number can be set to suit your operation). This enables conference and student accommodation operations to easily and quickly identify rooms that need attention, not just for risk assessments but also for supplementary cleaning or any other application.

For more information about Kx, email lisette@kinetic-solutions.co.uk or telephone 01234 436121. For more information about Legionella and Legionnaire’s Disease and how you should conduct risk assessments, visit http://www.hse.gov.uk/legionnaires/

University of Exeter shows the competition how it’s done at the Academic Venue Exhibition

While the competition was scribbling stuff on scraps of paper and promising to confirm availability and bookings on returning to the office, Exeter University was using Kinetic Solutions’ Kx venue, accommodation and conferencing management software to check availability online and in real time and make firm bookings. In fact, it took four provisional bookings - the top one worth £140,000. And this was done via a laptop at the Academic Venue Exhibition (formerly VenueMasters).

The exhibition is intended to showcase universities’ offerings in the extremely competitive conferencing and venue arena. Attendance at the Academic Venue Exhibition was up by around 7% this year, with almost 500 buyers, together with members of the press and non-buyers, visiting.

Exeter University cleverly harnessed Kx’s ability to offer customers access to instant information and on the spot bookings, showing the competition how it should be done.
